Emergency Closure
The decision to close the school will be made by the Headteacher, who will make a judgement if any one or more of the following conditions apply:
-
There are not enough staff who are able to get to school to keep the school running safely
-
Conditions on the school site/campus are too dangerous
-
Conditions are considered to be or are anticipated to become too hazardous for students and staff later in the day.
The front page of our website will have the latest information on whether the school is open, closed, closing due to an emergency situation or open only to certain year groups on a particular school day. It will also have instructions for any students due to take public exams and may have instructions to particular year groups about school work.
A decision to close the school or send students home early is always very difficult. Careful consideration is always given to the latest local weather reports, information about road conditions, bus and train services and the safety of the school site.
Additional information may be available on local radio and the Hampshire County Council website but please be aware, they do not always have the latest information. It is always best to check the school website first.
If the school has to close early due to severe weather conditions, we will ensure that your child has contacted you and that you know where they are going once they leave the school site. They will be asked to sign against their name on a register to confirm that they have contacted you and made arrangements. They will be told to come back into school if their bus or train is cancelled when they get to the bus or train station.
We will inform students of any changes to normal bus and train arrangements so they can inform you. Students who have been unable to contact parents/guardians will be kept safe and supervised until contact has been made and permission has been given to let them leave the site. The school will remain open until the last student has left the site.
