Wellbeing Support

You Are Not Alone

As a school, we believe that mental health and wellbeing are vitally important, for both adults and young people.

To maintain positive wellbeing in school we:

  • Teach our students to care for themselves physically and mentally via our RSHE curriculum.

  • Timetable all students to spend time in our outdoor classroom each week. Time in nature has been proven to enhance wellbeing and combined with our expertly delivered curriculum, increases self-esteem and emotion regulation in our students.

  • Have regular 'drop down days' where specific topics around RSHE, student leadership, wellbeing and social skills are the focus.

  • Have a house system to increase the sense of belonging for every member of staff and student in our school. Belongingness is important to us at Havant Academy and every member of our school community is valued for who they are.

  • Celebrate Mental Health Awareness events, have regular wellbeing assemblies and act to reduce stigma around mental health.

  • Have a brilliant team of Student Wellbeing Ambassadors and Mentors to offer peer support and champion mental health initiatives in school.

  • Have Walk & Talk and break time groups to promote talking to others and caring for our wellbeing.

  • Have a robust safeguarding culture in school, ensuring that the safety, health and wellbeing of students and staff is always paramount.

Everyone needs extra support when things are tough. With this in mind, we have a wonderful team of staff trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). The team offer one to one support to students when things are particularly difficult. They are then able to signpost to ongoing support.

In school we can also refer students to Animal Care sessions, Woodland Wellbeing, ACE Tutor Support, our Bereavement Group, Emotional Literacy (ELSA) support, and other interventions.

We can give students and families information on other local and national organisations who can help support with mental health and wellbeing. We work closely with our local Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and will make referrals for young people where we feel this intervention would be appropriate.

The forms below are designed for students, parents/carers and staff to complete, if they feel that a young person is in need of additional mental health or wellbeing support. Responses to the forms are monitored regularly and sessions with a Mental Health First Aider offered in school as soon as possible.

If you have significant concerns about your mental health, or the mental health of a young person in your care, it's always best to speak to a trained medical professional. Please contact your GP Surgery or NHS 111.
